This amazing work is being shared with you by permission of the author, Marisa Donnelly. I would like to thank Marisa for agreeing to share this as I know you will find it as encouraging, inspiring and delightful as I did. See Marisa’s links after you enjoy this incredible piece!
You cannot break,
A woman who fights. A woman who believes. A woman who stands tall in the face of brokenness, in the wake of change, in all circumstances—scratching, crawling, pushing, using every cell—to bring her to her feet after she falls.
You cannot break,
A woman whose self-love is centered on possibility, on hope, on the potential she has to become something even more wild and wonderful than she already is. A woman whose identity has been self-defined, self-created. A woman who looks to her past as a motivation for future days, continually inspired by the sound of her own voice and her soles hitting the ground as she runs.
You cannot break,
A woman who stares fear in the face. Not fearless, but determined—to rise, to continue, to forgive, to believe and to keep her heart as full as possible, no matter the ache inflicted upon it. A woman who does not let the circumstances of this life change who she is or the way she loves. A woman who is forever searching for answers, forever chasing the call of the universe, written in her bones.
You cannot break,
A woman whose worth is not centered upon a man’s opinion, not shaped by the ones she has loved or the bodies she has held in her arms. A woman who does not look to love to tell her how to live, how to be. A woman who sees relationships as compliments to life, not answers. And yet, a woman who knows how to love selflessly, and does so without hesitation.
You cannot break,
A woman who dances with her eyes closed, who runs until her lungs ache, who kisses with her whole body and fills whatever she touches with passion, with spark. A woman who breaks through the darkness wherever she goes—not because she has more light than the person standing next to her, but because what she chooses to see, to embody, is everything bright and weightless and free.
You cannot break,
A woman who is not grounded to the things and people of this world, whose faith rests in herself, in the one by whom she was created. A woman who does not count on material things to satisfy the longing in her soul, but wildly chases dreams, chases purpose, chases love, chases purpose.
You cannot break,
A woman who shouts, who screams, who creates, who speaks truths from her heart, even when no one is by her side. A woman who sees the plans laid out before her, the boundaries, the worldly rules of who and what she should be—and goes out and writes her own.
I would like to thank Marisa one more time for sharing with us! BRAVO! Keep up the good work! Marisa writes over at the Thought Catalog please visit her at this link: https://thoughtcatalog.com/marisa-donnelly/. This is where You cannot break a woman like me first appeared. Marisa is also the author of an amazing book of poetry- Somewhere on a Highway. I’m not an expert on poetry but I can tell you that “Iowa Stars” and “Run Wild with Me” are worth the cost of admission and will resonate within you.
WOW! This is powerful. Thanks for posting and sharing such an inspirational writing piece.
A strong woman is a wonderful blessing.
